ICT Week

Last week it was our ICT week. We did lots of work on the notebook computers. Our main task was to plan and produce a PowerPoint presentation. We could choose any topic that interested us. Some of the topics chosen were: - animals, authors, feelings, football and electricity. We could either work individually or in pairs.
Our presentations had to include a title slide and a contents slide. They needed to be colourful; however we also had to make sure our writing could be seen clearly. It was important that our information made sense!
When our presentations were completed, we presented them to the rest of the class. We were given ‘stars’ for all the things we did well and a ‘wish’ for something to improve next time.
We thought this was a very enjoyable task.

Science Week

Our focus for Science week was ‘Materials’. During the week we planned and carried out two investigations. Our first task was to find out which material was the most absorbent. We worked together in groups to plan our experiment. We had to make sure our test was fair and we also had to make predictions. Mrs King was pleased that we didn’t spill too much water in the classroom! Most groups found that the kitchen roll and the J-cloth were the most absorbent and the paper and the napkin were the least absorbent.
For our second investigation we tried to find out which shop carrier bag was the strongest. We needed a lot of ‘strength’ for this test! We counted how many tins of food we could put into each bag before it would break. The bags proved to be much stronger than we thought. Only the blue local shop bag broke after 21 tins. However, when we examined all the bags after the test, the Morrisons bag looked exactly the same. Well done Morrisons.
Also this week we have been having lots of fun investigating electrical circuits with Mrs Jones!

Design and Technology

We visited Pontypridd Museum to take part in a K’NEX workshop called 'Move that Load'. We were given the challenge of designing and making a wheeled vehicle which could securely move a load using the K'NEX construction kit. We worked together in pairs or threes. When we made our vehicles we had to make sure it could carry the load securely. An enjoyable time was had by all.
