On Friday 13th January, our class
visited Llancaiach Fawr, a manor house built in Tudor times.
During our visit, we found out lots
about the everyday life of the Tudor people in Wales. We went inside different
rooms in the house. First, we visited the servant’s hall where we made our own ‘plague
bags’ or ‘herb bags’ as they were sometimes called. We used some cloth, string
and a selection of pleasantly scented herbs. We were allowed to take these
home. In the kitchen, Kai had to pretend to be the ‘spit boy’ turning the spit.
In the armoury, Danny was asked to try on some armour. It was very heavy.
After lunch, we took part in a writing
activity where we wrote with hand cut quill pens & real ink. We
concentrated well & Mrs King couldn’t believe how quiet we all were!
Later we had chance to try on some Tudor
clothes and to sit in the stocks. It’s a shame we didn’t have any rotten
tomatoes to throw!!
A good time was had by all!
