Warburtons

Our Visit from Warburtons
On Wednesday 13th September, our class had a visit from Warburtons. They spoke to us about healthy eating and making sure we eat a balanced diet, to stay fit and healthy. They explained that we would be making a sandwich from a variety of ingredients. We would be encouraged to make  some healthy choices for the fillings.
We made sure our hands were clean and we also put on a hair net, along with an apron. There were lots of fillings to choose from to make our sandwich healthy and tasty.
We had lots of fun. We were allowed to take our sandwich home as well as a pack of Warburtons Toastie Pockets. An enjoyable time was had by all.

Daerwynno

Our Trip to Daerwynno Outdoor Centre

On Thursday 25th May our class visited Daerwynno Outdoor Centre in Llanwynno near Ynysybwl. It was a lovely hot day, perfect for a visit to a forest.
We were split into three groups to take part in different activities. One of the tasks was to develop our orienteering skills. We had to use a map and compass to find different letters hidden around the forest. We managed to find them all.
Another activity involved working as a team to build a den. The den had to be large enough for the group to fit inside to have lunch.
We also took part in different ‘team building’ games where it was very important to communicate with each other and help and encourage each other.

Please have a look at our photos.

World Book Day

On Thursday 6th April we celebrated World Book Day. We dressed up as a character from a book or wore our pyjamas and brought in a book we like to read at bedtime. In class we did lots of activities like writing a ‘synopsis’ for a book, designing our own book covers & book marks as well as writing book reviews. We had lots of fun.

Look at our lovely photos!

Chinese New Year

On Wednesday 15th February, all the pupils in Year Four celebrated Chinese New Year.
We started the day by watching some clips of children celebrating Chinese New Year. We found out about the decorations, food, clothes, dancing and gifts.
Next, we made Chinese lanterns and decorated them. We even counted in mandarin and did some writing.
We ended the morning by singing Chinese songs and doing the actions.
In the afternoon, we ate lots of delicious Chinese food. There was plenty for everyone! We sang more songs and then went into the hall to watch a video of Chinese children doing their daily exercises in school. We tried to copy their movements. It was a lot of fun!

We would like to thank Mrs Woo for helping to organise such a fun learning experience for us.

Llancaiach Fawr

On Friday 13th January, our class visited Llancaiach Fawr, a manor house built in Tudor times.
During our visit, we found out lots about the everyday life of the Tudor people in Wales. We went inside different rooms in the house. First, we visited the servant’s hall where we made our own ‘plague bags’ or ‘herb bags’ as they were sometimes called. We used some cloth, string and a selection of pleasantly scented herbs. We were allowed to take these home. In the kitchen, Kai had to pretend to be the ‘spit boy’ turning the spit. In the armoury, Danny was asked to try on some armour. It was very heavy.
After lunch, we took part in a writing activity where we wrote with hand cut quill pens & real ink. We concentrated well & Mrs King couldn’t believe how quiet we all were!
Later we had chance to try on some Tudor clothes and to sit in the stocks. It’s a shame we didn’t have any rotten tomatoes to throw!!

A good time was had by all!

On Monday 14th March our class visited Pontypridd Museum to take part in a K’NEX Challenge.
The task was to work in small groups to build a bridge using K’NEX.
Our challenge was to make our bridge strong enough to hold a weight of 330 grams.
Every group in the class managed to do the challenge! Some of the groups even managed to build a bridge that could hold over 1500 grams!
During these tasks we used lots of Design Technology skills.

The following pictures show us building and testing our bridges.
