Llancaiach Fawr

Llancaiach Fawr
On Thursday 31st January, our class visited Llancaiach Fawr, a manor house built in Tudor times.
During our visit, we found out lots about the everyday life of the Tudor people in Wales. We went inside different rooms in the house.
When we visited the servant’s hall, we made our own ‘plague bags’ or ‘herb bags’ as they were sometimes called. We used some cloth, string and a selection of pleasantly scented herbs.
In the kitchen, Ollie had to pretend to be the ‘spit boy’ turning the spit. In the armoury, we learned lots about the different weapons used in Tudor times. Issac was allowed to try on a helmet. He said it was very heavy.
After lunch, we took part in a writing activity where we wrote with hand cut quill pens & real ink. We concentrated well and Mrs King and Mrs Davies couldn’t believe how quiet we all were!
A good time was had by all!

Electricity!!

Yesterday we visited Pontypridd museum for a hands on activity session on electricity. We looked at how electricity is conducted through different materials including ourselves. There were circuits, plasma balls, static electricity, Jacobs ladder even making a frogs legs move!
We had an amazing time and the museum is open to the public if you want to go and see it.

Good and Bad

As part of our topic on Environment we looked at good and bad features around the local area. We took lots of photos of good things but we also found a few bad things too. We are going to look at the photos in class and see if we can solutions to the bad features.

Poetry Day!!

To celebrate National Poetry Day, Treorchy library invited us to join them and local poet Sion Tomos Owen  for a day of creating poems.
We took the train from Pontypridd to Treorchy all paid for by Arriva Trains Wales. We really enjoyed our journey as some of us have never been on a train before. We were very excited to be going with our friends too!
When we arrived at the library we met Sion Tomos Owen and he helped us write our own poems using our journey on the train!
We wrote almost 100 poems between us!! We would like to thank Arriva Trains, staff at Treorchy library and Sion Tomos Owen for a truly wonderful day.

See our photos below of our train journey, library and visit to the local park.
