This
week children in year three and four took a short walk to
visit the historical centre, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
During our visit we learnt about ‘life’ which included both
humans and animals. We found out all about the human body and its
different organs and the important job they do. The children all
enjoyed the balance and reaction challenge especially when they
competed against the teachers!!!!! We also explored how different
animals sight is different from ours and found it hard to write our
names wearing the special goggles.

A visit to our school from the Food Standards Agency
On
Monday 28th September our school had a visit from the Food Standards
Agency. In the morning we went into the hall to watch a play. It was
quite funny, but it was helping us to learn all about food hygiene in
the kitchen. We found out about the four C’s. These were:-
Cleaning,
Chilling,
Cross-contamination
& Cooking.
In
the afternoon we took part in a workshop session to help us learn
about how we can prevent food poisoning.
At
the end of the day we all had to answer questions to help get the
broken computer working again. We were so good we managed to fix the
computer!

Our Visit to the Celtic Village at St Fagans.
On
Tuesday 15th September our class visited ‘Bryn Eryr’ an Iron Age
farmstead at St Fagans.
We
found out lots about the everyday life of the Celts in Wales. We
learned about the different materials needed to build a Celtic
roundhouse. Some of the class were chosen to hold materials such as
straw, copper, clay and flint.
Next
we all went inside to discover how Celtic people cooked, made bread
and made clothes. Then we made our own bracelets out of ‘wool’
and we were able to try wheat grinding.
Outside
the roundhouse we were allowed to train to become Celtic warriors by
throwing spears. We liked this bit the best!
A
messy, muddy & enjoyable time was had by all!

Our Visit to West Midlands Safari Park
On
Thursday 18th
June we visited West Midlands Safari Park. We saw lots and lots of
animals. One giraffe came over to our bus and ate some food from the
bus driver’s hand!
We
visited ‘The Land of the Dinosaurs’ which was new this year. The
dinosaurs were huge and made terrifying noises.
Some
of us went into the bat cave which was very hot and smelly!
Then
we went on lots of different rides. Some of these were Twister,
Pirate Ship, Ghost Train, Bumper Cars, Elephants and the Swings.
However,
we liked the water rides best. Two of these were the Log Flume and
the Water Rapids.
We
got a little bit wet!!
Our Visit to Techniquest
On
Wednesday 20th
of May we visited Techniquest in Cardiff to learn about forces.
We
had lots of fun whilst learning at the same time. There were many
activities for us to do and for once, we were allowed to touch
everything!
There
was a water area and a dark room. In the dark room we could
experiment with things like plasma balls and controlling different
levels of mist. There were lots of different puzzles for us to work
out. We played a giant piano with our feet and took photos of our
shadows.
Later
on we attended a special show about forces where we learned about
pushes and pulls, gravity and air resistance.

Our Visit to St John’s Church
Mrs Cogbill’s & Mrs King’s class recently visited St John’s Church on the Graig. We had a look around the inside of the church & Father Michael spoke to us all. We were able to ask him questions to find out more about the internal features of the church. We also had squash & biscuits which was a lovely treat. We all learned lots & lots!
After
our visit, Father Michael & Mrs Minton sent the school a letter inviting us
to take part in a competition. The children in Mrs Cogbill’s class had to each
create a poster advertising the church & the children in Mrs King’s class
had to create an information guide. All the entries were sent to the church
& members of the congregation looked at them all to decide the winners. The
two winners were - Zi mo Zheng & Megan Dinsdale. Congratulations to the
winners & to all the children who took part.
All
pupils work will be on display during the church summer fete on Saturday 6th
June.
We
would also like to thank Father Michael & Mrs Minton for such a wonderful
welcome.

Visit to Cog Moors Environmental Centre
As
part of our topic on the environment, we visited Cog Moors
Environmental Centre.
First
we talked about the many ways we use water. We found out that the
average water use for one person is 150 litres per day! Next we did
an experiment to find out how much water we waste. We were very
shocked to learn just how much water one dripping tap can waste! We
also found out about the different ways we can save water.
Later
on we had a tour of the water treatment works, where we saw the water
being cleaned at different stages. In one part it was very smelly and
some of us had to hold our nose!
In
the afternoon we did a little test to find out what can be safely
flushed down the toilet. We learned that the only things you can
flush safely down the toilet all begin with the letter P! Can you
guess what they are?
We
had lots of fun & learned lots about water efficiency.
