Electricity!!
Yesterday we visited Pontypridd museum for a hands on activity session on electricity. We looked at how electricity is conducted through different materials including ourselves. There were circuits, plasma balls, static electricity, Jacobs ladder even making a frogs legs move!
We had an amazing time and the museum is open to the public if you want to go and see it.

Poetry Day!!
To celebrate National Poetry Day, Treorchy library invited us to join them and local poet Sion Tomos Owen for a day of creating poems.
We took the train from Pontypridd to Treorchy all paid for by Arriva Trains Wales. We really enjoyed our journey as some of us have never been on a train before. We were very excited to be going with our friends too!
When we arrived at the library we met Sion Tomos Owen and he helped us write our own poems using our journey on the train!
We wrote almost 100 poems between us!! We would like to thank Arriva Trains, staff at Treorchy library and Sion Tomos Owen for a truly wonderful day.
See our photos below of our train journey, library and visit to the local park.

Summer Science
Our topic theis term is Summer Science. We have been investigating how our heart rate changes when we do different forms of exercise. We measured our heart rate when we were resting, then again after doing different exercises. We chose our own activities like running, hopping, press-ups, skipping and squats. We used the results to create a graph on Microsoft Excel. We also drew our own graphs.

PC Dean
We had a visit from PC Dean to talk about friend of foe? We worked in groups on scenarios that could or do happen. We discussed as a group what we would do and if the person in the scenario was a friend or foe. Some of the scenarios we were surprised at the outcome and it has made us more aware of people in the wider community.
Here are some photos of our day.

Having a great time at the Royal Mint
Today we went to the Royal Mint and had a lovely time. We found out how our coins are made and even designed and made our own coin badge. We were amazed how many coins are made a week and that the Royal Mint makes coins for countries all over the world. We held discs of the 2012 Olympic Medals and found that they were really heavy.

Celtic Soup
As part of our topic on the Celts we made a Celtic soup. We looked at the vegetables that were available in their time and peeled and chopped a selection of them. We used carrots, parsnips, onions and herbs. To thicken the soup we added lentils which were available in the Celtic times. Mrs Davies cooked the soup for us and we all tried it. Some of us enjoyed it and some of us were not to sure about it. Please have a look at our photos.
